Sandspit in Blue
The pictures that follow, were taken late afternoon at the end of Sandspit Road, Shelly Park.
It is here on the mudflats, that the godwits (kuaka) and the knots (huahou) gather each year
in late February, early March to feed, doubling their weight before migrating to breed in
Siberia (!) In 1864, William Broomfield operated a ferry over the Mangemangeroa and
Turanga Rivers from his cottage at the end of Broomfield's Road
